Multi-Unit Chiller Optimization
MULTI-UNIT Chiller Optimization selects the most economical loading for each chiller in a multi-unit plant. It will then sequence units and loads on and off to meet the total plant load in the most economical manner. Multi-Unit Chiller Optimization also optimizes the operation of multi-cell cooling towers which may be associated with an individual unit or with several units. The software also produces a log to help facility engineers analyze the dynamics of the plant operation.
Based upon the cost approach, Multi-Unit Chiller optimization selects the proper loading for each unit.
The software computes the current plant load from the chilled water supply and return temperatures and the flow rate. It determines the most efficient way to satisfy this load based on the input-output curves and the availability of each chiller within each group of chillers considered.
Once the proper loading has been computed, the units which should be running are ordered ON, those which should not be running are ordered OFF. The proper loading for each unit is sent to the local controller or whichever is controlling the chiller's operation.
Designing and modifying the control schemes implemented is a relatively simple task and means that almost any equipment configuration can be handled without making program changes. This also provides the flexibility required to adapt to changes in the field equipment installation.
